I’ve been itching to get rid of Comcast basic cable for quite a while. The problem is they give you a great combo with their packages that include voice, internet, and cable TV service. When customers need to disconnect one of these, you lose the savings of the package.

But the cable TV setup just has to go, as the service and quality is below average. With so much discussion these days about HD, there just wasn’t much selection with Charter cable TV. So I began doing a little research on who else was available in my neck of the woods.

I happen to be one of the people who have been given a few choices. Unlike most subscribers who can only select from either the cable company or Direct TV satellite service, I have a third choice in this region. The phone company in my neighborhood has been enhancing the telephone network. So I have another consideration with Verizon and their FiOS service.

That doesn’t of course mean I won’t have similar issues. It would place me in the same situation as with the cable television company, as the phone company want me to bundle their television service with high speed and voice service. If the deal is good, customers will be happy. But if its not you are in the same circumstance that I’m in now with the cable operator.

Some reviews I found are fairly good on telecom TV service. Because it is new, there is always a risk with a service like this, and some people write bad reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, because people decide to write a dissertation on their poor experience and share it on the world wide web. They badmouth the company like it is some giant conspiracy to make the customer unhappy, like the company doesn’t want to make money!

Another option I’m seriously considering is of course satellite television. Since we have six TV viewers in our house, we usually buy a high end cable television package. The satellite companies seem to be pretty even, as the DirecTV Premier package and the America’s Everything Pak by Dish Network are each about $105 a month. Yes that’s fairly pricey for cable TV, but when you compare that to treating your family to dinner and a show, it really isn’t all that much. The nice thing is that there are lots of DirecTV pros and cons to help me decide which direction to take.
